Coyotes C Hanzal receives 2-game suspension from NHL for charging Edmonton’s Petry

GLENDALE, Ariz. – Phoenix Coyotes centre Martin Hanzal has been suspended two games by the NHL for charging Edmonton defenceman Jeff Petry.

Hanzal was called for a charging penalty when he ran Petry into the boards from behind in the first period of Phoenix’s 5-4 win over the Oilers on Saturday.

Hanzal is considered a repeat offender by the NHL after being suspended a game last season and will forfeit $75,609.76 of his annual salary.

He is Phoenix’s second leading scorer with five goals and 11 points. Hanzal will miss Tuesday’s game against Los Angeles and Thursday’s game against Nashville.
