OTTAWA – Senators have voted to suspend colleague Patrick Brazeau, a former member of the Conservative caucus, for allegedly claiming improper expenses.
The suspension, which permits Brazeau to retain health, dental and life insurance benefits, is to last for the duration of the parliamentary session, which could continue for the next two years.
The motion for Brazeau passed by a vote of 50-29, with 13 abstentions. The Senate is still to vote tonight on whether to suspend two other senators, Mike Duffy and Pamela Wallin.
