Jury convicts Ohio man charged with killing his wife in her hospital bed

AKRON, Ohio – A jury has convicted an Ohio man charged in the fatal shooting of his hospitalized wife.

The jurors in Akron returned the guilty verdict Friday in the case of 68-year-old John Wise of Massillon (MAS’-ih-luhn).

He told jurors he shot his wife of 45 years as she lay in an Akron hospital bed. He said he was heartsick over her debilitated condition that left her unable to speak.

Police say he calmly walked into 65-year-old Barbara Wise’s hospital room on Aug. 4, 2012, and shot her from her bedside. She died the next day.

A family friend, Terry Henderson, says Barbara Wise had suffered a stroke that had left her unable to speak.
