Montrealers chided for federal election hoax broadcast on comedy show

MONTREAL – Two Montrealers have been reprimanded by Elections Canada for taking part in a voting hoax — and documenting it on a popular French-language comedy show.

Laura-Emmanuelle Gagne and Simon Poulin each received an extra voter information card prior to the 2011 federal election.

They decided to cast a ballot at two different polling stations to prove a point — with both opting to spoil their second ballot.

The prank was recorded with a hidden camera and featured on the Radio-Canada show Infoman.

A notice posted Friday on the government’s Canada Gazette says both Gagne and Poulin now accept responsibility for their actions.

The notice says Canadians must respect the principle of one elector, one vote.
