WEST VANCOUVER, B.C. – Police have recovered a number of medals including an Order of Canada medal that were stolen during a break-and-enter in the Vancouver area.
The medals, which also included a Canada 125 medal and a Queen’s Jubilee medal, were taken last Monday from the West Vancouver home of Vancouver Aquarium co-founder and Order of Canada recipient Murray Newman.
West Vancouver police say a Canada Post mail carrier found a total of 19 medals dumped in a postal box on the east side of Vancouver.
The mail carrier turned over the medals to Vancouver police, which, in turn, contacted West Vancouver police.
All of Newman’s medals are now accounted for, though ribbons and mounting boards that were originally part of Newman’s medal display were not.
Police say they’re still investigating the robbery.
