Beaverbrook Art Gallery adds artist-in-residence studio in honour of Bruno Bobak
FREDERICTON – The Beaverbrook Art Gallery in Fredericton is adding an artist-in-residence studio as a tribute to late Canadian artist Bruno Bobak.
Gallery CEO Terry Graff says the program is the result of a gift of $250,000 from Bobak’s estate, along with 175 of his artworks.
Graff says it had been Bobak’s dream to have a space where an artist could have the freedom to work, while interacting with gallery visitors.
He says the residency will include public demonstrations, talks and workshops, and could vary in length for artists from New Brunswick and other parts of Canada.
Bobak’s son Alex said it is an honour for his father’s legacy to live on in the Beaverbrook gallery, near one of the rivers where the artist liked to fish and paint.
Bobak, who died in September 2012, was Canada’s youngest war artist and documented war scenes in Belgium, Holland and France, going on to receive the Order of Canada in 1995.
