Small plane makes emergency landing on NYC expressway; highway closed, emergency crews there

NEW YORK, N.Y. – New York City emergency officials say a small plane has made an emergency landing on an interstate highway in the Bronx.

Officials with the city’s Fire Department and Office of Emergency Management say the plane touched down Saturday afternoon on the Major Deegan Expressway in the area of East 233rd Street.

It wasn’t immediately clear why the plane landed on the highway.

The highway was closed and emergency personnel were on the scene.
