By the numbers: A look at Montreal aerospace giant Bombardier

MONTREAL – Bombardier said Wednesday it’s cutting 7,000 jobs, but in doing so it announced a deal with Air Canada that could serve as a life preserver for the aerospace giant, which has struggled to sell its CSeries line of passenger jets.

Here’s a By-The-Numbers look at Bombardier:

$8.5 billion: The amount of loans that Export Development Canada has given to customers of Bombardier over the last five years to buy the company’s planes and trains.

$467 million: The amount of loans that Ottawa and Quebec has given to Bombardier for the CSeries aircraft.

US$1 billion: Quebec’s investment in Bombardier announced last October.

64,000: The number of workers Bombardier will employ once the job cuts announced Wednesday are implemented.

75: The maximum number of CSeries 300 jets that Air Canada could buy from Bombardier under a letter of intent announced Wednesday.

0: The number of CSeries jets that have been delivered since 2009, when airlines began ordering them.
