After a scoreless first period, Cowan scored 2:47 into the middle frame and then the Marlies leaned on Akhtyamov to do the rest.
The Marlies outshot the Wolves 28-24 and went 0-for-4 on the power play. The Wolves were 0-for-3 with the man advantage.
Toronto won the first two games of the series in Chicago (4-2 and 5-4 in overtime) and have two shots to wrap up the series on home ice — Thursday or Friday.
