Evacuation alert over West Kelowna wildfire lifted, state of emergency over

WEST KELOWNA — Emergency officials in West Kelowna, B.C., say an evacuation alert covering 742 homes has been lifted and the community is no longer under a local state of emergency.

Central Okanagan Emergency Management says in an update that it was a “quiet night on the fire line” dealing with the Kalamoir Park wildfire.

The update says a group of local fire rescue staff are patrolling the area for hot spots.

It says BC Wildfire Service crews have finished up but left equipment in place, and people may still see “lingering smoke” in the area.

Emergency officials say, however, that people should still stay out of “neighbourhoods in the wildfire-impacted zone.”

The update says Kalamoir Regional Park is still closed, but the fire that was suspected to be human-caused is now classified as under control.
