No one would blame you if you’re been averting your eyes from the price of gas recently.

Typically we’d just show you the high gas prices and maybe highlight how weird it is that Vernon has been selling some of the cheapest gas in B.C. lately.

But we found a few figures that get less acknowledgement in the conversation of how crazy gas prices are these days.

Here are the numbers:

1.53: Dollars per litre. That was the average price of gas in Vancouver in January.
2.20: Dollars per litre. That was the average price of gas in Vancouver in May.
6: Top slots on the list for cheapest gas prices in B.C. were at stations in Vernon on June 22.
50: Cents. That was the difference between the cheapest gas price in Vernon and the cheapest gas price in Vancouver on June 22.
26: Cents. That’s how much some gas prices jumped overnight in Kelowna one day in May.
35: Cents a litre. That’s how much cheaper gas would have to be in Vernon for a Kamloops resident with a typical car to break even by driving to Vernon for 60 litres of gas.
19: Cents a litre. That’s how much cheaper gas would have to be in Penticton compared to Kelowna for drivers to break even by driving there and back to get 60 litres of gas for a typical car, roughly.
27: Cents a litre. That’s roughly how much British Columbians save on gas because of the carbon tax cut and the temporary federal fuel excise tax cut.
33: Per cent. That was the increase in the average gas prices in May in Canada.
7.4: Per cent. That was the increase in the cost for air travel in May, largely due to higher fuel prices.
