iN PHOTOS: Wildlife spotted feasting on berries in Thompson-Okanagan

Numerous kinds of wild berries are growing and ripening in the warm Thompson-Okanagan weather, and the juicy little fruits are sources of nutrition for a plethora of wild animals from tiny birds to big bears.

Area wildlife photographers recently captured some of the creatures dining out, including a fat marmot stuffing its face with Saskatoon berries and a bluebird feeding a berry to its baby.

Pairs of cedar waxwings were captured exchanging the berries as part of their unique courtship ritual.

The male offers a berry to the female who, if interested, will engage in passing the berry back and forth until she eats it. These songbirds snack on fruit all year round unlike most birds that feed on insects, according to the National Wildlife Federation.
