Jerome Tang rejoins Baylor staff after 4 years away at Kansas State

WACO, Texas (AP) — Jerome Tang has rejoined Baylor’s staff as associate head coach after four years away, during which he led Kansas State to an NCAA Elite Eight in his first season as head coach but was fired in mid-February after the Wildcats lost 11 of their first 12 Big 12 games.

Baylor coach Scott Drew on Wednesday announced his staff for the 2026-27 season, which will be his 24th at the Big 12 school.

Tang was also part of Scott Drew’s initial staff at Baylor in 2003, when the program was reeling from crippling NCAA penalties. Tang was there for 19 seasons, during which the Bears rose to win the 2021 national championship.

The newcomers on Drew’s staff are assistant coach and general manager Jake Lindsey and assistant coach Jonathan Tchamwa Tchatchoua, both former Baylor players. Associate head coach Ron Sanchez is back for his second season and former Bears guard Tweety Carter is going into his third as an assistant coach.

“This staff is built on Baylor Family,” Drew said. “We have champions, proven coaches, and three men who once wore this uniform. There’s something special about looking out at practice and seeing our former players coaching the next generation.”

The Bears were 17-17 last season with a roster completely changed from the previous year. It was their first time without a winning record since 2006-07.

Baylor still had a player picked in the first round of the NBA draft with guard Cameron Carr selected 24th overall by the New York Knicks. The Bears and Duke are the only schools to have first-round picks in each draft since 2021.
