iN NUMBERS: Where British Columbians are spending summer vacation

When it’s time for people to cut back on spending, vacations are often the first thing to go.

Most British Columbians who are taking a trip this summer aren’t planning on leaving the province.

The same number of people want to travel this summer, but since costs are rising in every area people are looking to stay closer to home.

Here are the numbers from a recent Leger survey:

  • 66: Per cent of BC respondents said gas prices are having an impact on their summer travel plans.
  • 61: Per cent of BC respondents said they’re going to travel this summer.
  • 70: Per cent of BC respondents with travel plans said they’re going to stay in the province for any summer trips.
  • 20: Per cent of BC respondents have their summer vacation already booked.
  • 43: Per cent of BC respondents said their personal finances have changed their vacation plans this year.
  • 14: Per cent of BC respondents with travel plans said they plan on going to the U.S. this summer.
  • 53: Per cent of BC respondents who aren’t going to the U.S. said it’s in part because they don’t feel safe there.
  • 38: Per cent of respondents ages 18 to 34 plan on staying in their province, the highest rate for any age group.
  • 8: Per cent of respondents aged 55 and older plan on going to the U.S., the lowest rate for any age group.
