Theatre Under the Trees Returns to Kamloops with Outdoor Performances for the Whole Family

As the sun begins to set over Prince Charles Park, families spread out blankets and lawn chairs while performers prepare to take the stage beneath the open sky. This summer, Theatre Under the Trees returns to Kamloops from July 6 to 25, offering audiences an opportunity to experience live theatre in one of the city’s most unique outdoor settings.

Presented by Project X Theatre, the annual festival takes place at Prince Charles Park, 1198 Columbia Street, and has become a summer tradition for local families and theatre lovers alike. The festival celebrates local artists while transforming the park into an outdoor stage where storytelling comes to life through imagination, music and performance.

This year’s festival features two family-friendly productions: Robin Hood, the classic adventure of the legendary outlaw who steals from the rich to give to the poor, and The Paper Bag Princess, the beloved children’s story celebrating courage, kindness and independence. Both productions are designed for audiences of all ages, making Theatre Under the Trees an accessible summer outing for families.

More than just a theatre performance, the festival invites visitors to enjoy an evening outdoors while supporting local performers and the arts community. Audience members can arrive early to choose their seats, enjoy refreshments from the concession, and settle in before the performances begin. Every summer, Project X Theatre builds the outdoor venue from the ground up, creating a welcoming performance space complete with audience seating, concessions and backstage facilities.

Theatre Under the Trees has grown into a Kamloops tradition, showcasing local talent while introducing new generations to live theatre. By presenting performances in a relaxed outdoor environment, the festival makes theatre approachable for first-time audiences while continuing to support emerging artists in the community.

Visitors are encouraged to dress for the weather, as performances take place outdoors. Seating is available, but arriving early offers the best choice of seats. In the event of extreme weather or poor air quality, performances may be moved to the Pavilion Theatre, with ticket holders notified in advance.

Whether you’re introducing children to live theatre for the first time or looking for a memorable summer evening with friends and family, Theatre Under the Trees offers a unique opportunity to enjoy storytelling under the Kamloops sky.
