What started as a small gathering turned into quite the turnout as the game began. A constant flow of people slowly sat on the grass with friends and family at Waterfront Park for the Portugal versus Croatia soccer match. The city of Kelowna was hosting a watch party as part of the 9 days of Touchdown Kelowna, a sports festival through June 27 to July 4.

The first half was tense and evenly contested, with Portugal controlling more possession but unable to break through.

Rain and some strong winds slowly crept up on the crowd during the 2nd half of the game, but only a few fans left early in case it started to get worse. People were still having a good time and cheering on their teams. Croatia scored first early in the second half through Ivan Perišić, putting Portugal under pressure.

Portugal ended up balancing the score when Cristiano Ronaldo converted a penalty after a VAR (Video Assistant Referee) review awarded a foul on Rafael Leão.

The final goal was scored by Gonçalo Ramos with assistance from Rafael Leão.

Portugal showed resilience by coming from behind to win 2-1 and move on to Round 16 against Spain on July 6.
