Crash closes Coquihalla Highway between Merritt and Hope

A crash has forced the closure of the Coquihalla Highway northbound for a large stretch between Merritt and Hope.

DriveBC says an assessment of the collision at Zopkios is underway.

Highway 5 is closed northbound for almost 116 kilometres between exit 183 at Peers Creek Road near Hope and exit 290 near Merritt.

Details about what took place are unclear, but it may involve at least one semi-trailer, based on a photo from the scene.

No word on when the route will reopen.

Drive BC says alternate routes are available.
