Wildfire season is in full swing so campfires are going to be officially banned in the Kamloops Fire Centre this Friday.
The ban is for category one campfires includes Kamloops, Vernon, Kelowna and Penticton, and it’s going into effect at noon, Friday, July 10, according to a press release from the BC Wildfire Service.
The ban is set to be in place until October, or until it’s rescinded.
It also bans fireworks, burn barrels, sky lanterns, air curtain burners, carbonizers, binary exploding targets and wood-fired hot tubs and pizza ovens.

Municipalities and regional districts could have their own restrictions in place so BC Wildfire said it’s best to check for additional local restrictions.
The penalty for violating the ban ranges from a $1,150 ticket to a $100,000 fine and/or a year in jail.
“Camping is a long-standing tradition in this province. The B.C. government recognizes that people also enjoy having campfires, so it takes any decision to implement a campfire ban very seriously. Wildfire prevention is a shared responsibility,” BC Wildfire Service said in the release.
