The body of a man, who is presumed to have drowned in Okanagan Lake near West Kelowna this past weekend, has been recovered by RCMP divers.
Members of the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team found the 45-year-old man’s body in roughly 80 metre of water today, July 16, according to an RCMP media release.
The man was being towed behind a boat on an inflatable tube on Saturday when he was thrown into the water. He wasn’t wearing a lifejacket.
The boat driver stopped immediately and got into the water in an effort to rescue the man but he was unsuccessful. He needed to be rescued himself by a passing boater.
RCMP investigators didn’t find any evidence of criminality associated with the man’s death.
Police have notified the victim’s family but aren’t releasing his identity.
The BC Coroners Service is conducting an independent investigation.
