A peacock that escaped from a farm in Kamloops in June is still on the lam, showing up on properties in the Juniper Ridge neighbourhood and making noise at early hours in the morning.

The bird is lovingly known as “Tony” by locals who have been sharing their sightings and interactions in a neighbourhood Facebook group.

“Tony dug out a hole in my garden bed on a hot day as the soil was nice and cool under my big tree,” said resident Justyna Burgess in a previous interview with iNFOnews.ca. “He left behind a couple of colourful feathers.”

Resident Tom Allister saw the bird on his porch bannister in July.

“He travels the whole neighbourhood, I’ve seen him all over the place,” he said in a previous interview. “He’s our little Juniper Ridge mascot for the summer.”

The peacock’s owner, Steven Thomson, has been trying to catch his bird without success. He told iNFOnews.ca Tony is a great alarm system when coyotes come around the chicken coop at his farm in Knutsford.

“He’s kind of been adopted by some families in Juniper,” he said. “There is still a trap set up but no one seems to be able to catch him, he moves around yards so often.

“It’s hilarious the debates people are having in the Juniper page. There was a big argument last week with this lady claiming Tony was a girl and needed his name changed to Toni.”
