Blue Jays: Addison Barger’s season officially ended by surgery on right elbow

TORONTO — Addison Barger will undergo season-ending surgery on his right elbow.

Barger only played in nine games for Toronto this year after having a breakout season with the Blue Jays in 2025.

The 26-year-old was hitting just .045 in 22 at-bats this season with two runs batted in and two runs scored. He had a .214 on-base percentage and a .091 slugging percentage.

It’s a stark contrast to last season when he hit .243 with 21 home runs, 74 RBIs and 61 runs as part of Toronto’s American League championship team.

Barger has been plagued by injuries this year, with a left-ankle sprain that cost him 29 games in March and April, right elbow soreness that put him back on the injured list after just one game in May, and then back issues diagnosed in late June while trying to recover from the elbow ailment.

He may have a full Tommy John procedure on his elbow which would shelve him for nine months or an internal brace operation that will keep him on the injured list for closer to six months.
