The BC Day long weekend is coming up and that probably means travelling and if that means travelling, that means you’ll want to know some of these ICBC statistics — for safety and not-so-fun facts on a long drive.

Let’s break them down:

  • 71: As a percentage, that’s how much higher fatigue-related crashes are in July and August compared to other months, according to police data.
  • 325: As a percentage, that’s the increased likelihood of being injured or killed in a motorcycle crash compared to people in a car.
  • 1,637: That’s how many crashes, on average, every BC Day long weekend in the Lower Mainland.
  • 424: That’s how many people are injured in Lower Mainland crashes every BC Day long weekend.
  • 414: That’s how many crashes, on average, there are every BC Day long weekend in the BC Interior.
  • 85: That’s how many people are injured in Southern Interior crashes every BC Day long weekend.
  • 2: On average, that’s how many people are killed in crashes on the BC Day long weekend.
  • 606: That’s how many crashes, on average, there are every BC Day long weekend across the province.
