Proposed Kelowna property tax hike still more than 4%

Kelowna city council will be asked on Monday to approve a 4.04 per cent tax increase for 2021, down slightly from the 4.27 per cent set in its provisional budget last December.

That works out to a tax increase of approximately $85 for the owner of an average residential property, a City of Kelowna news release states.

The higher tax rate in December would have resulted in a $90 per month increase.

The decrease comes despite the fact council will be asked to contribute another $100,000 to Journey Home this year, in addition to the $150,000 it has already promised.

There are a couple of other increases in spending that are offset by revenue from new construction and a FortisBC franchise fee increase.
