CALGARY — Vicky Sunohara is climbing another rung in her hockey coaching journey.

The two-time Olympic gold medallist as a player was named head coach of the Canadian women’s development team for the upcoming season Thursday.

Nadine Muzerall, meanwhile, will be behind the bench to lead the women’s under-18 program.

Sunohara, whose resume with the U18 team over the last two years includes a gold-medal performance in 2025, enters her 16th season as head coach of the University of Toronto women’s hockey team.

She got the nod as the top coach across both Ontario University Athletics and U Sports in 2020, 2022 and 2023. The 56-year-old helped Canada win gold at the 2002 and 2006 Olympics.

Set to make her head coaching debut with Canada, Muzerall enters her 11th year as head coach of the women’s hockey team at Ohio State University. She led the Buckeyes to NCAA national championships in both 2022 and 2024.
