Captain Nicholas Kirton leads the way as Canada beats Zimbabwe ‘A’ in one-day cricket
HARARE, Zimbabwe – Captain Nicholas Kirton scored 84 runs and opener Yuvraj Samraadded 80 to help Canada beat Zimbabwe ‘A’ by four wickets in a one-day cricket international Friday.
Zimbabwe “A’ won the first ODI Wednesday by four wickets.
Zimbabwe won the toss Friday and elected to bat first. The Canadian bowlers struck quickly with openers Matthew Welsh and Tanunurwa Makoni removed for three and two runs, respectively.
But captain Dion Myers, batting third, steadied the ship with an innings of 102 runs. Tony Munyonga added 91 as the hosts finished at 265 for nine in their allotted 50 overs.
Jatinderpal Matharu led the Canadian bowlers with four wickets from his eight overs.
Canada finished at 267 for six, reaching the victory target with one ball left in the 45th over.
Kirton slammed five fours and five sixes in his 57-ball innings. Samra had seven fours in his 98-ball knock.
The teams meet again Saturday.
