Ottawa Redblacks fire defensive co-ordinator Will Fields, Jeff Reinebold takes over

OTTAWA — The Ottawa Redblacks fired defensive co-ordinator Will Fields on Saturday.

The CFL team made the morning announcement after Friday’s 34-14 loss to the Montreal Alouettes to fall to a record of 0-7-0 for its worst season start since rejoining the league in 2014.

“These decisions are always difficult,” Ottawa head coach and general manager Ryan Dinwiddie said in a statement.

“Will is a quality coach and an even better person and we want to thank him for his contributions to the Redblacks organization over the past two seasons.”

Jeff Reinebold shifted from special teams co-ordinator to defensive co-ordinator, and Nick Taylor took over special teams.

The Redblacks have allowed a league-high 247 points against this season for an average of 35 per game.

Ottawa’s next game is against the Saskatchewan Roughriders in Regina on Aug. 7.
