Montreal Canadiens sign defenceman Maksymilian Szuber to one-year contract

MONTREAL — The Montreal Canadiens have signed defenceman Maksymilian Szuber to a one-year, two-way contract.

Szuber, from Opole, Poland, scored 11 goals and had 16 assists for the American Hockey League’s Tucson Roadrunners last season.

The six-foot-three, 215-pound player led the Roadrunners in goals by a defenceman and ranked third in overall points.

Montreal acquired his rights when it dealt winger Joshua Roy to the Utah Mammoth in a trade earlier this summer.

Szuber appeared in one game with the Arizona Coyotes in 2023-24.

The 23-year-old helped Munich win a German league title in 2023 and Germany earn silver at the 2023 world championship.

Szuber was selected in the sixth round, 163rd overall, by the Coyotes in the 2022 NHL Draft.
