Toronto Blue Jays activate pitcher Jose Soriano ahead of game against Houston Astros

The Toronto Blue Jays activated newly-acquired pitcher Jose Soriano on Tuesday.

The move came before Toronto’s game in Houston against the AL West-leading Astros.

Toronto acquired Soriano from the Los Angeles Angels on Monday ahead of the major league trade deadline. The Blue Jays sent shortstop Arjun Nimmala, right-handed pitcher Angel Rivero and outfielder Eddie Micheletti Jr. to California.

The 27-year-old Soriano has a 9-6 record from 22 starts this season. He has a 3.29 earned-run average with 127 strikeouts and 57 walks over 123 innings pitched.

Toronto also optioned right-handed pitcher Lazaro Estrada to triple-A Buffalo. Estrada appeared in four games this season with a 0-0 record and 4.82 earned-run average over 9.1 innings pitched.
