Penticton psychologist suspended; regulator vague on why

A Penticton psychologist has been suspended for six months for misconduct, although the regulator is keeping mum on what actually happened.

According to a July 13 College of Health and Care Professionals of BC decision, Dr. Grant Raymond Bogyo lacked competence “and/or” committed acts of misconduct in his dealings with a client.

The College of Health and Care Professionals gives no precise details of what took place or why Dr. Bogyo’s behaviour justified such a lengthy suspension.

The order says a client made a complaint about Bogyo in February 2025. 

“The (regulator) found that (Bogyo) had failed to exercise appropriate professional judgment, ensure the accuracy of professional communications, remain within the limits of the available information and scope of practice, and appropriately manage their role in matters affecting custody and access proceedings,” the decision reads.

There’s no information given as to why it took the College almost 18 months to complete the investigation.

While what Dr. Bogyo did is far from clear, the psychologist signed a consent agreement admitting to it.

The regulator has suspended his licence for six months and ordered him to complete an ethics and boundaries program within six months of being relicensed.

The regulator’s decision comes a couple of years after the provincial government amalgamated numerous healthcare regulators. At the time, the BC government said it would increase accountability and transparency.

It’s unclear how long Bogyo has been a registered psychologist, but records indicate it has been several decades.

Court records show Bogyo has submitted expert reports in several BC court cases and provided treatment to employees filing with the BC Workers’ Compensation Appeal Tribunal.
