Suspicious fire in Vernon park has RCMP looking for tips

A suspicious grassfire lit in a Vernon park on Sunday has RCMP asking for tips from the public.

The grassfire was reported at around 9 a.m., Aug. 9, in Becker Park and was quickly put out by firefighters, according to an RCMP media release.

RCMP said the grass fire is human cause and suspicious.

“We’re asking anyone who has information about this fire to please contact us so we can advance our investigation,” RCMP spokesperson Const. Chris Terleski said in the release.

Anyone who was in the area at the time and witnessed anything suspicious, or has any other information about the grassfire is asked to call Vernon RCMP at 250-545-7171 and quote file #2026-13742.
