CALGARY — Calgary Flames games have a new radio home.

Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corporation (CSEC) and Corus Entertainment announced Wednesday a five-year broadcast deal to carry Flames games on QR Calgary 770 AM.

Rogers Sports and Media shut down Sportsnet 960, which had carried Flames games, and Calgary sister station 660 NewsRadio in July as part of cuts that closed six radio stations in Calgary, Vancouver, Halifax and Kitchener and eliminated 230 jobs.

All Flames home and road games will be broadcast on 770 AM under the new agreement.

“We’re excited to share this news with our fans and, most importantly, to let them know we heard them loud and clear as we now have a new home for the future of Calgary Flames radio broadcasts,” CSEC president and chief executive officer Robert Hayes said in a statement Wednesday.

“Corus has stepped up as a tremendous partner, working closely with us over recent weeks to ensure Flames games remain accessible to our fans throughout the season.”

A daily sports talk show, “Flames Now,” is in development at the station.

“We are thrilled to welcome the Calgary Flames back home – as the station that broadcast the Stanley Cup-winning team’s games in 1989, this is an incredibly special time for QR Calgary 770AM,” said Corus audio vice-president Tammy Cole.

“This partnership represents a full circle moment, and we’re proud to build on our shared history while creating a new chapter for fans as they continue to follow and support their team for years to come.”

QR Calgary broadcasts the Calgary Stampeders’ CFL games. The football team is also owned by CSEC.
