Vancouver Whitecaps sign Serbian midfielder Aleksa Cvetkovic

VANCOUVER — The Vancouver Whitecaps have acquired midfielder Aleksa Cvetkovic from Serbian SuperLiga club OFK Beograd, the Major League Soccer club announced Wednesday.

Cvetkovic signed a U22 Initiative contract through the 2029-30 MLS season, with a club option for 2030-31.

The 21-year-old midfielder will join the Whitecaps’ MLS roster pending receipt of his international transfer certificate, visa, work permit, and medical clearance.

Cvetkovic started 52 of 73 appearances for Beograd, scoring seven goals and adding nine assists over three seasons.

He developed in the youth systems of Red Star Belgrade and Graficar Belgrade, winning the 2021-22 Serbian U17 championship with Red Star.

Internationally, Cvetkovic has five appearances and one goal for Serbia’s U21 national team and was invited to its senior national team camp earlier this year.
