Lemonade Day gives Kamloops kids a taste of entrepreneurship

Fresh lemonade, colourful stands and young entrepreneurs will pop up around Kamloops on August 21 as Lemonade Day gives children the opportunity to turn a simple lemonade stand into their first business.

The youth entrepreneurship program takes place throughout Kamloops from 9 am to 4:30 pm, with individual lemonade stands setting their own locations and prices. The program encourages children from Kindergarten through Grade 8 to create and operate their own small businesses.

Before opening their stands, participating children learn about planning, budgeting, marketing and customer service. They can create a business plan, choose a location, promote their stand and manage the money they earn.

But Lemonade Day is about more than selling a cold drink. The program helps young people build confidence, responsibility, and leadership skills while learning about spending, saving, and sharing profits.

For the community, the event offers an easy way to support young entrepreneurs. Residents can visit local lemonade stands, purchase a drink and encourage the children as they gain hands-on experience running a business.

The program also encourages mentors, teachers, parents and volunteers to get involved, creating opportunities for adults to help young participants develop skills that can benefit them well beyond the event.
