Penticton Indian Band COVID-19 cases grow to 10

The Penticton Indian Band is dealing with increased COVID-19 cases following the discovery of a COVID-19 positive case in the community earlier this week.

Contact tracing has revealed 10 further infections, the band was told in a notice issued to the community this afternoon, April 29.

PIB Health is monitoring the situation and reaching out to all those identified in the contact tracing list.

Thirty-two individual tests were completed April 27 and another 37 tests completed April 28 as contract tracing continues.

The band is advising anyone with concerns or who develops cold or flu symptoms to get a COVID-19 test immediately.

“If you have been part of any gatherings within the last 10 days without following the COVID-19 protocols, it is important to protect those around you by following self-isolation guidelines for 14 days from the date of the gathering. Please write down all the people you have been in close, direct contact with since that day to ensure fast and accurate contact tracing in the event you test positive,” the Penticton Indian Band Health Department said in a notice issued on April 27.

The notice also applies to those already vaccinated.

Steve Arstad

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
