Kamloops was buzzing with excitement this past weekend as local hockey legend Logan Stankoven made an appearance with the Stanley Cup.
Crowds gathered at Riverside Park Sunday afternoon, Aug. 16, cheering and clapping as Stankoven took to the bandshell stage to hoist up the trophy.
Born and raised in Kamloops, the 23-year-old centre, and former Kamloops Blazer, just completed his third season with the Carolina Hurricanes who defeated the Vegas Golden Knights to win the Stanley Cup on June 14.

He first trotted the cup around Royal Inland Hospital to show patients and hospital staff, before heading to his former school St. Ann’s Academy where he posed for photos with students, according to NHL.com.
The hometown legend then went to Riverside Park to greet a throng of fans, creating an unforgettable moment for the Tournament Capital.
“Our family is so excited to share the Stanley Cup with the Kamloops community and celebrate this incredible moment with everyone who has supported Logan along the way,” said Wes Stankoven, Logan’s father, in a City of Kamloops media release on Aug. 6.

The park around the bandshell was full of fans at the afternoon event where several speeches were made and a highlight video of Stankoven’s hockey career was played. Stankoven did a live interview with a local sports broadcaster before hoisting the cup over his head.
He then posed with the cup amongst a throng of fans for a group photo.
The event was organized by the Kamloops and District Chamber of Commerce, City of Kamloops, Kamloops Blazers, Tourism Kamloops, Downtown Kamloops and the Kamloops Sports Council.
