Man in wheelchair assaulted, robbed downtown

KELOWNA – A man in a wheelchair was knocked to the ground and robbed downtown last Wednesday morning.

The man, 36, made a withdrawal from an ATM at around 9 a.m. and placed the cash in his backpack. Approximately 20 minutes later, he was approached by a woman in the area of Lake Ave. and Water St. While the woman asked the victim for a cigarette, a second suspect approached the victim from behind and grabbed his backpack.

The two men struggled for a few moments and the victim was knocked out of his chair and onto the ground. He was then struck in the face. Both suspects fled the scene on foot with the backpack, which was later recovered. The cash was missing.

The female suspect is described as being of Aboriginal descent, approximately five feet tall and around 100 lbs. She has a pierced eyebrow and was last seen wearing a purple jacket.
