Rise rout Rapid 5-1 in NSL play thanks to four-goal second half

OTTAWA — Alex Lamontagne scored twice in her Vancouver debut and the visiting Rise scored four times in the second half to knock off the front-running Ottawa Rapid 5-1 in Northern Super League play on Saturday.

Anna Bout, Maithe Lopez and Camila Reyes, on a penalty shot, also scored for the Rise who scored three times in a span of 10 minutes early in the second half and then cruised to the blowout win at TD Place.

Elise Bell scored in the 82nd minute for the Rapid to spoil Jessica Wulf’s shutout bid.

With the victory the Rise move into fourth place in the six-team circuit, one point ahead of the Halifax Tide. The Rise improved to seven wins, one draw and nine losses for 22 points. The first-place Rapid, with 33 points, remain three up on the second-place Montreal Roses. The Rapid slip to 10 wins, four losses and three draws.

The Rise had a slight advantage in possession (53 per cent to 47), and outshot the hosts 17-8, including 11-3 on target.

Vancouver took four of the game’s seven corners. Each team received two yellow cards.
