RCMP investigating deaths of Kamloops brothers as homicides

RCMP have confirmed the deaths of two Kamloops brothers whose bodies were found near Penticton last week are being investigated as homicides.

Police say the bodies of 29-year-old Erick Fryer and 31-year-old Carlos Fryer of Kamloops were found on the Naramata Creek Forest Service Road on May 10.

"The unexpected deaths of both Erick and Carlos are being investigated by police as homicides,” B.C. RCMP Major Crime Section acting officer-in-charge Supt. Sanjaya Wijayakoon said in a media release issued today, May 18.

A large police presence is expected to remain in the area where the bodies were discovered by hikers for the rest of the week as the investigation continues.

“The RCMP remains committed to determining what led to Erick and Carlos’ deaths, identifying the person or persons responsible for their killing and keeping the victim’s family updated on the investigation as it continues to unfold,” Supt. Wijayakoon said.

Police believe the incident is isolated in nature and not a random act.

Nothing in the investigation so far suggests the homicides are connected to Lower Mainland gang conflict, RCMP said.

Investigators remain open to all possibilities in this homicide case and continue to ask anyone with information to come forward immediately.
