Alcaraz with Spain and Zverev leads Germany for Davis Cup Final 8

BOLOGNA, Italy (AP) — Carlos Alcaraz was in Spain’s team for the Davis Cup Final 8 next month, meaning he’s slated to play in the competition for the first time in two years.

Alexander Zverev, who is guaranteed to take over the No. 1 ranking before the Nov. 24-29 event in Bologna, was named to Germany’s team in Monday’s squad announcements.

Three-time defending champion Italy, which will be without the injured Jannik Sinner, will be led by French Open runner-up Flavio Cobolli.

Alcaraz hasn’t played in the Davis Cup since the 2024 Final 8.

After becoming the youngest man to complete a career Grand Slam by adding an Australian Open title to his resume at the start of this year, the Davis Cup is one of the few big titles missing from Alcaraz’s career.

Spain features two other top-15 players, with No. 11 Rafael Jodar and No. 15 Alejandro Davidovich Fokina also selected by captain David Ferrer.

Spain opens against Austria in the quarterfinals.

Zverev’s Germany opens against Britain, which is led by Wimbledon semifinalist Arthur Fery.
