Osoyoos driver escapes injury after hitting utility pole

Power is back on following a single vehicle collision that destroyed a utility pole in Osoyoos this morning.

Osoyoos RCMP and first responders were called to a single vehicle collision on 87 Street just south of 120th Avenue around 8:16 a.m. today, May 21,

A Toyota 4 Runner travelling northbound on 87th Street went off the road and struck a utility pole, according to an RCMP media release.

The pole was destroyed, bringing hydro lines down onto the road and cutting power to parts of Osoyoos.

Witnesses saw a man leaving the scene on foot. The man, a 46-year-old who lived nearby, eventually called police from his residence. He was uninjured.

He told police he swerved to avoid a deer that walked out in front of him.

Speed appears to be a contributing factor in the collision, RCMP said.
