Como extends contract of forward Roberta Picchi after her breast cancer diagnosis
COMO, Italy (AP) — Italian soccer club Como has given forward Roberta Picchi a contract extension in what it called a “continued commitment” after she was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Picchi’s diagnosis came after she helped Como win promotion to the top tier of Italian women’s soccer for the first time last season and weeks before its first women’s Serie A game.
“Roberta will now begin her treatment, supported throughout by the club’s medical team, who will work closely with the specialists responsible for her care,” Como said in a statement on Monday.
“Everyone at Como 1907 is alongside Roberta and will give her and her family all the support they need during the months ahead. As part of that continued commitment, the club has also renewed Roberta’s contract until the end of the 2027/28 season.”
Como added, “At this time, we ask that Roberta’s privacy is respected as she focuses on her treatment and recovery.”
