Pelicans waive veteran Taj Gibson after acquiring him in a multi-player trade with Memphis

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The New Orleans Pelicans waived Taj Gibson on Wednesday, one day after acquiring the veteran in a multi-player trade with the Memphis Grizzlies.

The move allows the Pelicans to save $3.8 million in non-guaranteed salary Gibson was due this season.

Gibson was included in a trade on Tuesday that sent Jordan Hawkins and Micah Peavy to Memphis for AJ Johnson. The teams also swapped future second-round draft choices.

Gibson is a 17-year veteran who has averaged 8.3 points and 5.7 rebounds during his career, which has included stints with Chicago, Oklahoma City, Minnesota, New York, Washington, Detroit and Charlotte.
