iN PHOTOS: Golden Hour transforms landscapes in Thompson-Okanagan

Landscapes across the Thompson-Okanagan region are spectacular bathed in golden light just after sunrise and just before dusk.

Called Golden Hour, these fleeting periods of natural lighting are popular times for shutterbugs to capture exceptional, softer-looking images.

The duration of the golden hour depends on latitude and the season, according to TimeAndDate. When the sun is perched low over the horizon its rays have to travel further through the atmosphere to reach Earth, hitting more particles along the way that filter light, giving it a softer glow.

The thicker layer the light has to pass through also scatters blue and violet wavelengths, letting more orange and red wavelengths through.

The longest golden hours happen during the summer then gradually grow shorter through the fall. Fortunately, area photographers captured it in recent months, giving creative perspectives to our surrounding landscapes.
