ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — The New York Mets named Derek Falvey senior adviser for baseball operations on Thursday, a move that comes eight months after a mutual agreement with the Minnesota Twins to leave that organization after nearly a decade.

In New York, Falvey will report directly to David Stearns, Mets president of baseball operations.

“Throughout his career, Derek has distinguished himself as one of the most respected executives in our sport,” Stearns said. “His experience across the full scope of baseball operations functions and his familiarity with leading an organization will serve as a great addition to our front office group.”

Falvey was an executive vice president and chief baseball officer for the Twins from 2016-19, then became president of baseball operations in 2019. Minnesota made the playoffs four times during his tenure.

His departure from the Twins last January came after a change in control of the family-run franchise, when Tom Pohlad took over as the team’s executive chair.

“I am excited to join the New York Mets and become part of a franchise that means so much to so many people,” Falvey said. “Throughout my conversations with the organization, what stood out were the high expectations and the commitment to winning at every level. What I’ve always loved most about this game is being part of a team, and I look forward to bringing my experiences and contributing to this group in any way I can.”

The Mets, who earlier this week made Andy Green their full-time manager with a three-year contract, also promoted Kris Gross to assistant general manager of scouting.

Gross joined the Mets three years ago to oversee amateur scouting. Before this season, the Mets added oversight of international scouting to his duties.
