Kelowna-Lake Country-Coldstream MLA Tara Armstrong has not declared whether she’s running in this provincial election.

The independent MLA made an ambiguous post the day Premier David Eby called the election, Sept. 22, and has yet to answer questions or or make a clear public statement.

“To the many supporters who have called, messaged and flooded my inbox in recent days, thank you for your love and your trust. For your resolve. We will not give up hope. There is too much at stake,” she posted to social media. “Keep your hearts open. There are good and principled people in this province.”

Her post was a selective retelling of her time as a politician, from running as a BC Conservative, to starting OneBC, to the collapse of OneBC and then her sitting as an independent.

“I never wanted to be a politician. For years, I had been watching helplessly as the province that I loved and wanted for my children steadily slipped away,” she wrote. “The BC Conservatives went from dormancy to within a few hundred votes of forming government. I won my riding by a large margin.”

Most other incumbent candidates have clearly stated their intention to run to keep their seats, from NDP Penticton-Summerland’s Conservative MLA Amelia Boultbee to Conservative MLA Ward Stamer in Kamloops-North Thompson.

Armstrong was facing a motivated recall campaign and more criticism than most MLAs prior to the premier dropping the writ.

The BC Conservatives have picked Pavneet Singh to run in Kelowna-Lake Country-Coldstream while the other parties have yet to announce a candidate for the riding.

The party Armstrong co-founded, OneBC, has announced four candidates in total and Armstrong isn’t one of them.

The race is far from over and Armstrong has until Oct. 3 to be nominated.

General provincial election day is Saturday, Oct. 24.
