BC Greens tap Elizabeth May’s husband for Kamloops riding

The husband of the federal Green Party leader will represent the BC Green party in the provincial election campaign.

Elizabeth May’s husband, John Kidder, was picked to run for the BC Green Party in the Kamloops-North Thompson riding.

The party emailed members this week with his nomination form, soliciting signatures to confirm his candidacy with Elections BC. A copy of the email was provided to iNFOnews.ca.

Once confirmed by Elections BC, he’ll be taking on BC Conservative incumbent Ward Stamer.

Also in the running is BC NDP candidate Kory Clark, a 24-year-old health-care worker.

Kidder, who’s from Ashcroft, has never held public office, but he has run in multiple provincial and federal elections for the Greens. He also ran as a federal Liberal in 2011.

He’s a farmer and businessman in his mid-70s, and he was one of the founders of the BC Green Party. He and May, longtime leader of the federal Green Party, married in 2019.

BC election day is Saturday, Oct. 24.
