Drop-ins now accepted at any Interior Health COVID-19 vaccination clinic for 1st shots

With more than 735,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine administered in the Interior Health region there’s now room for drop-ins at all clinics.

“As of today, any clinic is ready to welcome someone who wants to drop-in for their first dose of vaccine,” Interior Health president and CEO Susan Brown said in a news release issued today, June 25.

“No appointments are necessary. That includes youth and families; anyone 12 and older is welcome to drop-in for their first dose when it’s convenient for them.”

Locations for the clinics can be found here.

With scorching heat coming to all parts of B.C., health officials are still encouraging people to get vaccinated in order to keep the number of new COVID-19 cases on its downward trend.

That number sat at 72 new cases in B.C. in the last 24 hours, 13 of which were in the Interior Health region, according to a joint statement issued today by provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix.

"This weekend, with the anticipated extreme hot weather throughout the province, we remind everyone in British Columbia to stay cool and hydrated – whether you will be going to a vaccine clinic or spending time with friends and family outside,” the statement reads.

"Our mass clinics are indoors, and many pop-up clinics have moved to cooler, indoor locations. If you have a vaccine appointment at a pop-up clinic or are planning to drop in, check the location before you go, wear a hat and sunscreen, and bring water."

Of the new cases, 29 were in the Fraser Health region, 24 in Vancouver Coastal, four on Vancouver Island and two in the Northern Health region.

There were two more deaths, bringing the provincial total to 1,749.

There are 1,096 active cases in B.C. with 108 people in hospital, 37 of whom are in intensive care.

The vaccination rate his climbed to 77.6 per cent of adults. Of all residents 12 and older, 76.2 per cent are vaccinated. There are now more than 25 per cent of all residents over the age of 12 who have received their second doses.

Register for second doses of the vaccinations at the Get Vaccinated website here or by calling 1-833-838-2323.
