Avid hunter shot himself in the chest

LAKE COUNTRY – The death of a 52-year-old Lake Country man has been ruled accidental.

Tracy Darren De Montezuma’s body was found in the Wilma Lake area off Beaver Lake Road Oct. 4, 2012.

He was reported missing 5 days earlier on Sept. 29. He went by himself to check out an area where he planned to hunt with a friend the next day.

Search and Rescue volunteers found his body in a wooded area full of wind fallen trees less than a kilometre from his parked truck.

Coroner Andrew Cave concluded De Montezuma tripped on a fallen tree and fell, his 270-calibre bolt action Winchester went off, the bullet hit him in the chest and he bleed to death.

The coroner says the safety on the rifle was off.

Cave makes no recommendations in his report.
