More than 30% of new COVID-19 cases in B.C. in Interior Health

With 14 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the Interior Health region recorded 32 per cent of the 44 new cases in all of B.C.

Those numbers were contained in a joint statement issued today, June 30, by provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix.

Of the new cases, 17 were in the Fraser Health region, 12 in Vancouver Coastal, one on Vancouver Island and none in the Northern Health region. There were no new deaths.

There are 816 active cases in B.C. with 108 people in hospital, 34 of whom are in intensive care.

The vaccination rate for adults has reached 78.4 per cent with 32.8 per cent receiving a second dose while 77.1 per cent of all residents over the age of 12 have been vaccinated with 30.6 per cent of those having two doses.

"With the start of Step 3 of the B.C. Restart plan coming into effect tomorrow, it is a time of renewal and reflection for all of us,” the statement said. "Even with the changes, masks remain an important layer of protection, and we should all continue to wear them in all indoor public spaces until we have immunity from the second dose of vaccine.”
