Wrexham handed fine for breaching player eligibility rules

WREXHAM, Wales (AP) — Wrexham has been fined by the English Football League for fielding two ineligible players this season, the club announced Wednesday.

Issa Kabore’s documentation was not submitted properly to the EFL ahead of the match in which he featured against Birmingham City on Aug. 28, meaning he was not eligible for the fixture.

Callum O’Hare was included in the matchday squad for the win over Millwall on Sept. 2, even though he hadn’t been registered in time to be eligible after joining from Sheffield United the day before. He was an unused substitute for the game.

Wrexham, owned by Hollywood celebrities Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac, said it had “reached an agreed decision with the EFL” concerning the two breaches and had been fined 75,000 pounds ($100,000).

Of that sum, 25,000 pounds ($33,000) was suspended.

“The club is taking the appropriate steps to prevent such issues occurring in the future,” Wrexham said in a statement.
